All our examinations come hand in hand with full explanations of what we are doing and why, so you are not left in the dark. An eye examination does not only detect the need for spectacles but it provides valuable information to us regarding your general health.
We are proud to offer free NHS eye examinations funded by the Scottish Government, routine eye examination should be undertaken every 2 years. More frequent examinations are recommended if you are over 60, under 16 or if you or close family members have any of the following conditions:
- Glaucoma
- High Blood Pressure
- Age Related Macular Degeneration
- Any form of visual impairment
OCT
Major medical conditions can be found by simply examining your eyes : Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to reveal the many layers that make up the back of the eye. This particular 3D OCT unit captures a digital photograph of the inner surface of the eye at the same time, so that areas of concern identified by the scan, can be cross referenced with the classic view of the back of the eye that your optometrist sees.
